Wayne Hassett, at 16-year-old jockey, secured his first win in on the track when he rode San Andreas to victory at the Join Us Instagram @dundalk_stadium Race in Dundalk. Trained by Joseph O’Brien, San Andreas was the 5/4f favourite and was a clear winner under Hassett’s skilled riding.
Hassett had an impressive record from his ponyracing days, having won a race and placed third in three races last season. He is also the nephew of Martin Hassett, a popular trainer and employee of Coolmore.
Brendan Powell, O’Brien’s assistant trainer, praised Hassett’s riding and mentioned that he has been associated with their stable for almost three years. He said that Hassett is a quiet lad who is starting to come out of his shell and that Joseph O’Brien gives young jockeys like him a chance.
San Andreas, a seven-year-old horse, has been consistent and has given several young jockeys like Hassett a great ride. Powell mentioned that San Andreas will be heading to Newcastle for his next race and that he is a solid horse who keeps bringing home prize money.
We look forward to the future and see great things for Wayne
